Menu For Hope Auction 2007
Calling all sweet lovers . . . We are pleased to announce that What's The Recipe Today Jim? and our sister site Dusty Traveller are taking part in this years Menu for Hope Charity raffle raising money for WFP school lunch program in Lesotho, Africa.Lesotho needs urgent international assistance to avert a major food crisis because of high cereal prices after this year’s main cereal harvest was ravaged by one of the worst droughts in 30 years, says a new report by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the WFP.
Some 400,000 people across Lesotho -- or a fifth of the total population -- will face food shortages and will need assistance at the height of the crisis, in the first three months of 2008.
What's The Recipe Today Jim are offering a tempting selection of home made sweets and biscuits to the auction.Coconut ice, Cherry and Almond Biscotti and Scottish Tablet are just a few of the treats that you'll find in this tempting selection of hand-made sweets and biscuits all made with love by myself and my daughter-in-law Helen.
How can you resist? You gotta loose a few pounds to gain a few pounds right?
On a diet? Check out the fabulous Corgi i-car on offer at Dusty Traveller. Truly a car that rocks!!How the auction works:
For every $10 donated, you earn one virtual raffle ticket to bid on a prize of your choice. At the end of the two-week campaign, the raffle tickets are drawn and the results announced on Chez Pim. The campaign will run from 10th - 21th Dec.
The brain child of Chez Pim, the Menu for Hope campaign is now in its forth year, raising nearly $63000 last year for the UN World food program.
With a special permission from the WFP, the funds raised by Menu for Hope 4 this year will be earmarked for the school lunch program in Lesotho, Africa.
Pim says:
" We chose to support the school lunch program because providing food for the children not only keeps them alive, but keeps them in school so that they learn the skills to feed themselves in the future. We chose to support the program in Lesotho because it is a model program in local procurement - buying food locally to support local farmers and the local economy. Instead of shipping surplus corn across the ocean, the WFP is buying directly from local subsistent farmers who practice conservation farming methods in Lesotho to feed the children there."
